"I was awestruck to see the streets of Kigali
trash free and rebuilding taking place all around
in a poverty-stricken country with few natural resources.
In just the few months since I was there last July,
the people of Rwanda have made a commitment to take
pride in their country and in themselves. Cleaning
up, rebuilding, evangelism and education are just
some of the ways they are doing so. No, the poor don’t
choose to be poor. Someone said that “we are
accidents of latitude” and I wonder if I were
poor, how I would respond to a call from my country’s
president to reach for higher standards, to strive
to be the best I can be and turn to God for answers…"
