April 2008: Rebuilding Together
On behalf of the Board of Directors of Volunteers on Call, Inc. we would like to highlight and thank the following volunteers for their terrific work today. With gloves in hand, lots of doughnuts, “High School Specials” and Rebuilding Together T-shirts they went to work promptly at 8:30 this morning to help in the clean-up effort at the home of an elderly couple. (Thank you Bryan, for getting up 2 hours before your usual daily routine…)
Two 30-yard dumpsters were filled with all kinds of “mementos” that the family finally had to part with. Paul was looking out for “hidden treasures” that may have been worth millions at the Antiques Roadshow. He believes I threw away a Picasso. We are still trying to determine what one of those items was! In addition to the cleanup, there was also clearing of the backyard, which included a few unexpected thorn bushes! (Yes, Roxana had the first injury of the day…)
The love, energy, enthusiasm and determination that these great volunteers showed embodies the spirit of VOC. For some of the helpers today this was their first time volunteering. The feedback from everyone is that they would like to get involved with upcoming VOC projects and this was an experience that touched them.
As we said goodbye, the homeowner had tears welled up in his eyes and did not know what to say. He didn’t have to. I believe that we all received far more than what we gave.
Our volunteers today included:
Danny Cioffari
Barbara Cioffari
Roger Bowgen
Max Schweisfurth
Christina Matthews
Joseph Lohwasser
Paul Spigener
Roxana Bowgen
Bryan Dinckelacker
Raju

Thank you again, for your love, care and support of the mission of Volunteers on Call, Inc. The success of this agency is because of those of you who take time out of your busy schedules to help those in need!!!
