April 11, 2006: VOC Disaster Preparation
Seminar
Volunteers On Call and the Red Cross will provide
a learning seminar for anyone who is interested in
preparing their home, family and community for the
possiblity of any type of disaster. As we've seen
in Louisiana part of the key is being prepared!
Come out and learn how you
can create a plan and be prepared for any unforseen
disaster events!

Informational Session - Costa Rica Volunteer Trip
In 2006, Greenwich based humanitarian not-for-profit,
Volunteers on Call, Inc., will be returning to Costa
Rica for the fourth time and would like to welcome
you to be a part of this year's team! Through its
field partners, VOC will be working with needy and
orphaned children in the suburbs of San Jose.
VOC will hold its first informational meeting on Wednesday,
April 12, 2006 at 8 Sound View Drive, Suite 100, Greenwich
across the Cos Cob Train Station. Please join VOC
and past volunteers from 7:00 - 8:30 pm. for a brief
presentation, question and answer period, light snacks
and refreshments. Email or call VOC to register.
WHO: Anyone 18 years or older who has signed participation
forms, release and medical waivers and has attended
three Team Building meetings, which dates TBA
WHAT: Build/refurbish an orphanage in the suburbs
of San Jose, the capital of Costa Rica. Volunteers
will also have the opportunity to care and spend time
with children with sight, hearing, motor and mental
impairments as well as work in the classroom to introduce
the English language, talk about the importance of
good hygiene and share in fun projects like painting.
Past and present projects include wheelchair ramps
and rails, mural or logo painting, petting zoo construction,
wall, classsroom or storeroom construction and/or
painting, etc.

April 13, 2006: VOC Informational Session
- Rwanda Volunteer Trip
Volunteers On Call, Inc. will be hosting an informational
meeting for their upcoming Fall volunteer trip to
Rwanda, Africa.
On April 13th @ 7:00 PM we will be sharing information
about our upcoming trip, anticipated projects, commitment
deadlines, cost, etc. Come on out and learn more about
this great opportunity to help others globally meeting
the needs of orphans, widows, vulnerable children
and HIV victims in Rwanda.

Community Disaster Education

Join us for a lunchtime discussion of how to prepare
for a local disaster such a winter storm or loss of
power. You will also learn how build your own disaster
supply kit. Targeted for senior citizens, this
FREE presentation includes lunch and a free starter
kit.
Sunday, April 30, 2006 Red Cross: March for
Measles

A 5K walk to help raise money for the Measles Initiative,
an International Red Cross effort to vaccinate children
in Africa and Southeast Asia.
Started in 2000, the Measles Initiative has vaccinated
almost 200 million chidren and prvented 1.2 millino
deaths. That amounts to an astouding 60% drop in measles
cases and deaths in Africa since the start of the
program. For less than a dollar (80 cents) a child
can easily be vaccinated against measles. This includes
the cost of all necessary resources including the
vaccine, syringes, cotton balls, safe siposal of syringes,
trianing for volunteers and the resources for spreading
the word about measles in local communities.
There will be games, live music and entertainment
at the park following the event.
Registration is $10 before the event and $15 the day
