Volunteers gathered surplus bread and baked goods
from local vendors to distribute at the Norwalk Emergency
Shelter in Norwalk, Connecticut.
VOC, Inc. president convinced the manager of an upscale
grocery store to donate all the day-old baked goods.
On a weekly basis and for several months the team
transported a truckload of bread, baguettes, cakes
and cookies to the shelter. When the shelter could
not accept a delivery, the food items were taken to
a local nursing home.
The clients at the Norwalk Shelter consisted of several
single mothers with young children as well as entire
families.
