Midnight Run - Lunch Bag Project

Local Children and Teachers in Greenwich, Connecticut Decorate Lunch Bags for Homeless Friends in New York City

Juliana Collamer, a Greenwich High School Senior, has been doing an internship program with VOC.  One of her responsibilities during her four-week internship was to spearhead the May 29th Midnight Run for Volunteers on Call, Inc.  Midnight Run is an outreach and partnership program to assist New York homeless individuals by providing them with food and clothing.  As the Team Leader, Ms. Collamer engaged numerous volunteers to assist her in making this effort a success while bringing seeds of hope and encouraging words to those living in the streets.

Volunteers as young as 6 years old were involved in decorating the lunch bags given out to over 100 homeless people during the middle of the night.  It takes weeks of planning and several individuals to assist in the shopping of the food and clothing, preparing the food, securing and loading the van that carries the supplies.  In addition, each "run" requires "runners" who go out into the designated areas to spend time getting to know our homeless friends.

Volunteers on Call, Inc. hosts  3 - 4 runs per year.  If you would like more information on how you can spearhead an effort, please contact:
